About Frances
Originally from Scotland in the borders of Dumfries the land of big wide-open landscapes and the Solway Firth close by, the love of the area inspired me to paint and appreciate the environment in all its glory. From cycling down country lanes to walking on the beach I would carry a pencil and note book to scribble notes and make drawings. I was in my element totally blissfully unaware of either time and space.
Having attended Glasgow School of Art I left Scotland to join the Royal Air Force and whilst in Germany I met my husband and after moving around Europe for many years I finally settled down in Lincolnshire, I never lost the love of painting and was commissioned many times to paint aircraft (what else would you paint in the air-force). Mostly at this time I would paint in watercolours and it wasn’t till we settled in the UK that I learnt to do oil paintings and from there I went from strength to strength perfecting my own style.
I am still overwhelmed and grateful when someone views my artwork and says that they have been there and that my paintings make them feel the tranquillity of the scene. It makes it so worthwhile then, especially if they like it so much that they wish to purchase it. I am so proud when my work is adorning someone’s home to be loved and admired.
